Chicago Cubs Manager Mike Quade and the Cubs agree to a two year contract as of October 19, 2010. The Cubs have a option for a third year.
It was a surprise to learn that Lou Piniella had stepped down as the Chicago Cubs Manager. It was also a surprise to learn that Mike Quade was named as his replacement.
Prior to being named the interim Chicago Cubs Manager for the remainder of the season, Mike was the third base coach.

Mike Quade
So who is Mike Quade? A little history:
Mike Quade is a Chicago Native graduating from Mt. Prospect High School in 1979. His playing experience began in college where he played for the University of New Orleans. In fact, he was named part of the Sun Belt conference during their 30th anniversary, which bestowed him the honor of All-Time baseball team.
He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1979 and played in their minor league until 1983. He never made it to the Majors so he retired as a player. He decided that his experience may best suited for a career in coaching and/or managing.
Some of the teams that Mike Quade has been a manager for before he began the Chicago Cubs manger have been: Harrisburg Senators (he became a Minor League Manager of the Year with them), West Michigan Whitecaps (who he took to the championships), and even the Vancouver Canadians (who he won the championship with).
Some outside the inner circle of the club were surprised with the selection of Mike Quade instead of Alan Trammell. Alan Trammell as bench coach was the choice to fill in when Lou Piniella was absent earlier. But Jim Hendry came forward and said that Alan Trammell was not a candidate for the managerial position and Mike Quade was. Some may not know, including myself, that Mike Quade was interviewed for the job in 2007 before Lou Piniella was hired.
There is a long list of candidates that are going to be interviewed for the job. It is a prestigious position to hold, but by no means is it ever going to be easy. Who ever is picked is going to have all the pressure that goes with being the Manager of the Chicago Cubs. Mike Quade has a leg up right now being in the drivers seat but all eyes will be looking.
