Carlos Zambrano was traded to Florida. A sad situation that finally ended. Promising Andrew Cashner has also been traded, to the San Diego Padres. There are still 3 starting pitchers from last year, Matt Garza, Randy Wells and Ryan Dempster. New additions Travis Wood from the Reds, Paul Maholm a free agent from Pittsburg, Chris Volstad from Florida in the Zambrano trade and Andy Sonnanstine a free agent from Tampa Bay will be looking at the remaining spots. I think at this point just about anything is possible.

Chicago Cubs Starting Pitchers 2012 RYAN DEMPSTER
Ryan Dempster was named opening day starter for 2011, his first time. Ryan Dempter has been as steady as they come. He loves playing for the Cubs and reports are that he can be seen quite frequently in the neighborhood. He signed a 4 year $52,000,000 contract last year that will run through the end of 2012 currently making $13,500,000. But in 2008 he asked for and was granted the opportunity to join the starting pitchers rotation. Kerry Wood who was having injury problems as a starter became the closer. The latest addition to the Chicago Cubs Starting Pitches roster is Matt Garza. The Cubs have completed a large trade with the Tampa Bay Rays to bring in a starting pitchers to the organization. It's a trade that seems well-designed for both clubs, as there is a lot of upside on both sides of the trade, and each had to give up some major value. For the Cubs, they are hoping not only to bring in a solid, innings-eater style of pitcher for the top of the rotation, they hope to be bringing in a potential new number 1 pitcher, and one with big game and postseason experience to help direct the young team in the right direction. It took quite awhile for Randy Wells to make it to the big show. But now that he is here he is making the best of it. Randy Wells was a catcher in the minors and but decided to go the stating pitchers route, well probably wasn't going to make it as a catcher. Probably didn't hit too well but that is a guess. He came up through the Toronto Blue Jays and came to the Cubs during the 2008 season. He made the team as a starter out of spring training in 2009. He pitched amazingly well but couldn't by a win. He ended up with a 12-10 record and a very impressive 3.05 ERA. He didn't win but came in 6th in the rookie of the year ballot. The Cubs got lucky with this one. He seems to know his stuff out there and doesn't get rattled easy. He has good control and doesn't walk many. Like the other Cubs starters he does not have an over powering fast ball just good control and moves the ball around. 2010 was not a great year for the Cubs nor was it a great year for Randy Wells. Things for Randy looked so promising going into 2010 but there was nothing but problems.
