Rudolpho "Rudy" Jaramillo
Rudy Jaramillo was quite a find for Jim Henry and the Chicago Cubs when they went out and signed him as the new hitting coach starting with the 2010 season. Jaramillo is well known as a premier hitting coach
.Rudy Jaramillo played in the minor leagues from 1973 to 1976 for the Texas Rangers but was never called up to the big club. He was coach in the minors from 1983 to 1989. He became the hitting coach for the Houston Astros after Yogi Berra retired signing on October 31, 1989.
His signing as a hitting coach with the Astros was the beginning of a long and successful career that went through the Texas Rangers and is now with the Chicago Cubs.
He was the Astros hitting coach until 1993. He left the Astos and became the manager of Bend Rockies in 1994, a minor league team.
The Texas Rangers signed him before the 1995 season and he stayed there until the end of the 2009 season. His tenure of 15 years with the Rangers is the longest any hitting coach stayed with one club. During that time the Rangers were in the top five hitting teams in the American League. It has been said that the Rangers ballpark in Arlington, Texas which opened in 1994 is a hitter's paradise. Even with that being said Jaramillo's instruction as a hitting coach speaks for itself. He has helped so many players with their hitting and approach that many feel he has made players become stars and resurrected those that have fallen.
Jaramillo wanted a multi year contract which the Rangers couldn't do at this time which is lucky for the Chicago Cubs. We shall see if he can take the talent that the Cubs have and make them into a better run producing club. Hopefully the players will listen because run production for 2009 was lacking.
