Jake Fox

Jake Fox has been traded to the Oakland A's
Jake Fox is another new member brought up from AAA in 2009. There seems to be a direct route from AAA Iowa to Wrigley Field. Fox was tearing up the league and you have to wonder what was taking the Chicago Cubs organization so long in bringing this guy up. He was hitting .423, had 17 home runs and 50 RBI. The Cubs aren’t hitting and they leave this guy in Iowa. Especially with Ramirez down and Fox can play third with a little coaching and practice. Not sure what is going on there.

Jake doesn’t get cheated at the plate. For someone who seems to take a home run swing each time he makes pretty good contact. He has had quite a few long fly outs to center. But its early and time will tell the story. But right now the Cubs need his bat. And I know it is way too early to say this but based on less than 30 games his stats are pretty close to Aramis Ramirez. Not a bad start. Some back ground on Fox starts with he was drafted by the Cubs in the third round in 2003. He started out as a catcher but has moved around the infield and outfield. It seems they are looking for a position for him so the Cubs can utilize his bat. He wasn’t going to displace Soto. He also wasn’t going to replace Ramirez at third or Lee at first. He was first called up to the big leagues in July 2007 but only appeared in 7 games. He was sent back down and split time between AA and AAA in 2008. Looks like the Cubs were trying him at different positions besides catcher.
